Whitchurch Silk Mill in Hampshire is a 19th century water mill that weaves English silk fabrics using 19th century machinery. The Mill is the oldest working silk mill in Britain, still weaving in its original building. If you are a fan of BBC productions such as Cranford and Pride and Prejudice you will have seen some of their work being worn in the period costumes.
They also weave many fabrics for interior design use.
Burberry are one of their customers for silk fabric along with a long list of other fashion houses.
The grounds of the Mill are very relaxing and beautiful, I would recommend a visit on one of their special day's when you can see the machines working their magic. These can be found on their web site, http://whitchurchsilkmill.org.uk/mill/index.php/home
Happy New Year to you all and what happened to the month of December? I hope to get back to blogging this month.
