New England

American quilt challenge

In October 2015 I was lucky enough to visit New England for three weeks. In New Hampshire I like to visit a store called www.keepsakequilting.com. It is filled with thousands of bolts of material all set out beautifully and interspersed with quilts and other lovely things to inspire you to make something lovely. To be honest it's mind blowing and way too much to take in on one visit! Luckily we don't stay far away so at least three or four visits are made on each trip I take to New England, which is such a chore!!!!

10 more of the best from Beacon Hill Boston

As promised here is ten more of the best from Beacon Hill Boston.

I think Halloween may be a little crazy in Boston. As we left the city to come home they were queuing out of the party store and down the block, with security guarding the doors!

We have experienced Halloween in Vermont before, which was good fun, quite spectacular, and was all wrapped up by 8pm with the state police joining in the festivities as well.

Rattlesnake Mountain New Hampshire

Up with the lark this morning for a hike up Rattlesnake Mountain in New Hampshire, I'll let the photographs do the talking. Well worth the hike I'm sure you will agree, and beautifully warm at the summit if not a tad freezing on the walk down and up.

Two Creek Hill Stowe Vermont

We have been fortunate enough to stay in Stowe Vermont New England USA four times, staying at the Stoweflake Inn and the Green Mountain Inn. This time we wanted to stay in a home to see what it felt like to actually live in the area, and cook our own food some of the time. We were lucky enough to find Two Creek Hill to rent for the week, the owner David Brownstein was incredibly helpful from our first contact with him, even showing us other properties that were smaller and lower in price than his own, in his words 'he just wanted us to stay in Vermont and have an amazing time'.

New England so far

Thought I would just share with you what we have seen in New England so far, the weather has been unseasonably warm for the time of year with plenty of sun and a few hours of torrential rain. The last few days have flown past as we get used to the time difference and a different way of life. Boston has been lovely and now we are looking forward to  tomorrow and the more gentle side of Vermont.

Autumn has arrived.

Autumn has arrived in our home and garden, it is my favourite time of year. Beautiful colours, amazing food, nice walks, cosy evenings, pumpkins and squashes (not just for halloween),  and if you are really lucky a trip to New England for the fall.
